Classic Mustang Fuel Sending Unit | 3/8" Outlet with Return | Stainless

Fits 1965-68 Ford Mustang

Restore accurate fuel level readings and add the return connection required by a return-style fuel system with this stainless fuel sending unit for 1965-1968 Ford Mustangs. This direct-fit, in-tank replacement features a 3/8 inch fuel outlet and an additional return provision for Mustangs equipped with compatible aftermarket EFI, return-style pressure regulators, or other fuel systems that circulate excess fuel back to the tank.

Important: Most stock 1965-1968 Mustangs with a factory-style carburetor and mechanical fuel pump use a sending unit without a return connection. Choose this return-style sending unit only when your fuel system has, or is being converted to use, a dedicated return line to the tank.

  • 1965-1968 Mustang fitment: Designed for early Ford Mustang fuel tank sending unit applications.

  • For return-style fuel systems: Intended for compatible aftermarket EFI systems, bypass-style fuel pressure regulators, electric fuel pump systems, or other applications that require excess fuel to return to the tank.

  • Not normally required for a stock fuel system: Most factory-style carbureted Mustangs with a mechanical fuel pump use a sender without a return connection.

  • 3/8 inch fuel outlet: Supports compatible upgraded fuel delivery systems requiring a 3/8 inch supply connection.

  • Dedicated return provision: Provides a connection for routing returned fuel from a compatible regulator or fuel system back into the tank.

  • Accurate fuel-level signal: Measures the fuel level in the tank and sends the corresponding signal to the dash gauge.

  • Direct-fit in-tank installation: Mounts in the factory-style sending unit location inside the fuel tank.

  • Stainless steel construction: Provides a durable replacement for worn, corroded, leaking, damaged, or missing sending units.

  • Ideal for fuel-system upgrades: Suitable for EFI conversions, return-line installations, fuel pressure regulator upgrades, electric pump systems, fuel tank service, gauge repair, or complete fuel-system restoration.

This stainless fuel sending unit is designed for 1965-1968 Mustang owners who need both dependable fuel gauge operation and a connection for a return-style fuel system. It performs the normal fuel-level sensing function while also providing a path for excess fuel to be routed back to the tank.

A return line is commonly used with aftermarket EFI systems, high-pressure electric fuel pumps, and bypass-style fuel pressure regulators. In these systems, fuel that is not immediately needed by the engine is returned to the tank. This can help the fuel system maintain the pressure and circulation required by the specific pump, regulator, or EFI configuration.

This unit is generally not necessary for a stock-style Mustang using a carburetor, engine-mounted mechanical fuel pump, and single supply line. Those applications normally use a sending unit without a return provision. Before ordering, verify that your fuel system requires a return line and that its supply line, return line, pump, regulator, and fittings are compatible with this sending unit.

Designed to mount inside the fuel tank, this direct-fit replacement uses a 3/8 inch fuel outlet and includes the additional return provision required by compatible return-style layouts. It is a strong choice when installing an EFI conversion, adding a bypass regulator, upgrading to an electric fuel pump, replacing the fuel tank, repairing the fuel gauge, or refreshing a previously modified fuel system.

Choose this sending unit when your 1965-1968 Mustang has a return-style fuel system that requires a dedicated line back to the tank. For a stock-style carbureted system with no return line, use a standard sending unit without the return provision.
